GNAT clinches 17% salary adjustment
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has settled on a 17% upward adjustment of salaries in its recent salary negotiations for 2009 with the Fair Wages Commission last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, public sector organisations that subsist on the Ghana Universal Salary Structure would maintain their step increment of three percent, a statement issued and signed by Peter Korda, Public Relations Officer at the Ghana National Association of Teachers has said.
The effective date for the payment of the new salary is January 2009, with the first payment in August, and the arrears for January to July 2009 staggered between September and November 2009, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of GNAT has scheduled a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Education, Mr. Tettey-Enyo, and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service on July 23, 2009, to discuss pertinent issues such as promotion interviews for the 2002 batch of teachers, management, and the effective date for payment of 20% basic salary as allowances for teachers in deprived communities, among many others.
