Kumasi, July 9, GNA - Alhaji Dr. Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, Ashanti Regional Director of Ghana Health Service has urged Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist nurses to intensify outreach programmes to educate people especially in rural communities on the need to seek early advice from them to prevent aggravation of ENT-related problems.
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim was speaking at the Seventh Anniversary and Sixth graduation ceremony of 28 Post-Basic ENT Nursing School at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Wednesday.
He said as health professionals there was the need for them to exhibit professionalism in all their dealings with clients, promote the image of the health sector, organize their services well, diagnose and manage all common ENT problems and build confidence in their clients.
“While I encourage you to take health education in our communities seriously, let people centeredness, team work, discipline, innovation and excellence as well as integrity underpin all your activities and practices”, he said.
Alhaji Abdul Rahman Shaban, Course Coordinator of the School, said the school was on course on its mission of training qualified and competent professionals to alleviate the suffering of the people in the communities with ENT problems.
The Coordinator said as the school celebrates its seven years in existence; it faces some challenges which include low enrolment and awareness of existence of the school, low generation of internally generated fund, lack of permanent classrooms and accommodation for students.
He said the biggest achievement despite these challenges was that 105 well qualified nurses in ear, nose and throat have so far been trained since the establishment of the school.
Mr. Kwame Adinkra Amo, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Ghana Registered Nurses Association, appealed to the government to ensure that the ENT Nurses were placed on the new salary structure.
