Unauthorized Structures in Water Ways to be Demolished

The Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Armah Ashitey says, the removal of unauthorized structures in water ways will be done after an inventory of such structures have been done and due diligence carried out. However where there are no permits and such structures are obstructing the free-flow of water, they would be demolished.

The Regional Minister who is also the MP for Korle-Clottey said this in a statement in Parliament on Tuesday. According to the Regional Minister, the flood situation in  Greater Accra this year, has been very serious rendering many people homeless.

He announced that an Inter-Ministerial Task Force has been put in place to resolve all matters relating to the disaster. Again, a team of experts in the Urban Planning, Design and Engineering Department of the AMA is finding scientific and sustainable ways of sanitation and decongestion.

He said more satellite markets would be designed and located away from the city centre. Nii Armah Ashitey regretted that the Statutory Planning Committees of the District Assemblies have become ineffective and are unable to enforce the basic bye-laws that the Assemblies have passed.

:( Politicians should stop making such utterances, and for one time, PLEASE DO SOMETHING SENSIBLE: PLEASE CONSULT QUALIFIED EXPERTS, to find the solution to the problem. THEN TELL US WHAT THEY SAID, AND WHY YOU CANNOT IMPLEMENT IT, and why you prefer to "pull down houses" instead.

Do you support or oppose Parliament’s passage of the Anti‑LGBTQ+ Bill 2026?
