Today at the Media Centre of the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, Ghanaian sports journalists will celebrate the International Day of the Sports Journalist with a lecture to be delivered by two experienced journalists.
The day, set aside by the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS), is to highlight the role of sports journalists in the world.
The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), an affiliate of the AIPS and the mother body of sports journalists in Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), is organising the lecture as part of the celebrations.
The lecture, on the topics ‘The State of Sports Journalism in Ghana today and the way forward’ and ‘Pitfalls in Sports Journalism and how to avoid them; will be handled by Mr Joe Aggrey, a veteran sports journalist of international repute, and Mr Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh, General Manager, Newspapers, of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, respectively.
Mr Aggrey, a one-time President of SWAG and one of the finest sports journalists ever produced in Ghana, is expected to make an analysis of the current trend in sports journalism, as well as discuss the profession.
Mr Ayeboafoh also comes on board with a wealth of experience in journalism, having been in the profession for the past 20 years.
Mr Ayeboafoh, who is also a lawyer, is expected to take a critical look at the profession from the legal perspective.
He will take a look at some of the pitfalls in journalism and suggest ways of dealing with them.
A statement by the President of SWAG, the Ackah Anthony, has called on sports journalists across the country to be part of the celebration.
The lectures start at 9a.m.
