Accra June 30, GNA - A trader accused of stealing the trailer of an articulated truck worth GHC 10,000 was put before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Kinsley Oppong charged with conspiracy and stealing has pleaded not guilty and the court has admitted him to bail in the sum of GHC 30,000 with three sureties with one to be justified.
Oppong's accomplice, Charles Coffie is however at large.
Oppong is scheduled to reappear on July 14.
Chief Inspector Mary Adika, the prosecutor objected to the bail, saying Oppong had misled the Police that he lived at Abeka Lapaz but could not be found at the said place.
But his lawyer Mr. A. Ofori, said the matter was a business transaction and prayed the court to admit Oppong to bail adding that he would appear to stand trial when granted bail.
Prosecution's case was that Oppong lived at Anyaa while the complainant Mr. Felix Asare-Mensah a mechanic has a workshop located at Mallam Junction in Accra.
The prosecutor said in March, Oppong and Coffie came to his workshop and rented the trailer at a cost of GHC 1,400 and showed the complainant a house at Abeka Lapaz where he (Oppong) was residing.
When the time was due for Coffie and Oppong to produce the trailer, they contacted the complainant to sell the trailer to them at a cost of GHC 4,500 but the complainant said he would inform the owner.
Prosecution said the owner disagreed at the price offered by them.
Two weeks after the expiration of the rent of the trailer, Oppong and his accomplice did not show up.
When Mr. Asare-Mensah went to Oppong's house at Lapaz, he was told that Oppong did not live there, however investigations led to Oppong's arrest at Anyaa.
During interrogation, Oppong told the Police that he only guaranteed for Coffie, now at large.
