THE ASHANTI Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Opoku-Manu, has presented relief items estimated to cost GH¢8,685 to students of the Catholic Technical Institute (CTI) at Buokrom, a suburb of Kumasi, which suffered a severe fire outbreak on June 15, this year.
The items included 150 students' mattresses, 100 blankets, 50 bags of rice, 100 cups, 100 bowls and 10 packets of iron roofing sheets. Mr. Opoku-Manu commended the Catholic Church for its hard work as far as quality education in the country was concerned, and gave assurance of his administration's support towards the rebuilding of the hostel facility for the school.
Reverend Monsignor Douglas Peters, Vicar General of the Kumasi Archdiocese, who gave the acceptance speech on behalf of the institution, thanked the Regional Minister and promised that the donated items would be used as intended for.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Charles Obeng, who narrated the incident of the fire outbreak, said the students were compelled to go home, leaving the electrical students who were still writing their examinations, and those came from afar.
According to the Principal, these students were compelled to sleep in a classroom till they left for their various homes.
The Principal also said they were preparing a classroom block as a temporary dormitory for the students, who are to commence studies soon.
He estimated the cost of construction of a new hostel to be GH¢40,055, and made a humble appeal to the general public to contribute towards the completion of the project.
