Re: Prestea Huni-Valley MP meets constituents

We note the article on page 12 of the June 24, 2009 issue titled 'Prestea Huni-Valley MP meets constituents.' In this article you make claims that are incorrect and the record needs to be set straight.

You quote the Hon. Member of Parliament, Francis Adu- Kwasi Blay, as saying that Bogoso Gold Ltd (BGL) has agreed to transfer the underground mine to the people.

I can only assume that you misquoted the Hon MP, because no such agreement has been reached, indeed no conversation on this issue has ever taken place.

BGL's successor company, Golden Star Bogoso-Prestea Ltd (GSBPL), is spending over 5 million USD per annum to employ over one hundred and fifty people from the Prestea community, and on pumping and maintenance of the underground asset.

We continue to study the feasibility of putting the asset into production. In the meantime, we are good stewards of the asset, and would not burden the “people” with the bills we pay each and every month to protect this asset.

Your reporting has put doubt and uncertainty into the minds of the people of Prestea, and you need to correct your error for the good of these same people. We expect that you will clarify the situation in the next issue of your paper.

Yours truly, Signed by: Dan Owiredu – Vice President (Operations)
