Mampong (Ash), June 29, GNA – Mr. Daniel Appau Ohyeaman, Asante-Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has said 40 per cent of the assembly's development budget would be used to revamp education in the municipality.
He also mentioned the need to resource the Non Formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education (MOE) in the Municipality to help reduce the high level of illiteracy and eradicate poverty.
Mr. Ohyeamang was addressing the First Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Mampong on Friday.
He said bursaries and scholarships would be awarded to needy but brilliant students at both secondary and the tertiary levels to enhance education in the area.
“The government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would also extend the School Feeding Programme to a number of Basic schools in the Municipality”, he said.
Mr. Oheamang said the assembly would continue to offer financial assistance to the physically challenged students in some of the special schools in the municipality.
“Attention of the assembly would be paid to public clinics and health centers in the Municipality, with intensified education on HIV/AIDS, to reduce the spread of the menace”, he said.
He expressed worry about the prevalence of water borne diseases in the municipality and that a new pump and other alternative water sources would be provided to complement the two pumps that are serving the communities.
Mr Oheamang assured farmers who incurred heavy loses due to lack of rains that they would be provided with fertilizers at subsidized prices.
