Kumasi, June 29, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) would soon start with the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Central Market which was gutted by fire last month into a modern complex market.
Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said he wondered why traders whose stores were burnt are suspecting stores would not be allocated to them after its completion.
Mr. Sarpong was speaking at the 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kumasi Diocesan Lay Movement Council of the Methodist Church in Kumasi at the weekend.
He said the original owners would be given the right choice of ownership.
Mr. Sarpong said the KMA was aware of their plight and that everything would be done to provide their needs to enable Kumasi attain its status as the Garden City of West Africa.
He commended the Methodist Church for its contributions towards the provision of education, health and others to enhance the living conditions of its members and the people.
Mr. Sarpong called for unity among Ghanaians towards nation building adding “let us all be God-fearing as we make efforts to develop the nation”.
Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Presiding Bishop-elect of the Methodist Church of Ghana, stressed the need for the Lay Movement Council to mobilize the members towards the development of the Church.
He called on all societies within the church to have kindness and compassion for the needy in society while they support them to improve on their living conditions.
Mrs. Araba Ata Sam, Lay President of the Methodist Church, also advised Christians to always keep to the tenet of being their brother's keeper.
