Expose charlatan faith healers-Amenowode
Ho, June 29, GNA - Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, on Monday urged executives of the Ghana Association of Faith Healers and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) to expose charlatans in their ranks to raise their acceptability among the populace.
He said though some were playing their roles well in health delivery, some charlatans were destroying the image of the profession and needed to be cleared.
Mr Amenowode said this when Volta Regional Executives of the Association called on him at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) offices in Ho.
The Minister said about 70 per cent of the nation's population visit prayer centres to seek healing while quite many babies are delivered by TBAs.
Mr Amenowode said as a result some charlatans joined them to take advantage of the sick and depressed without offering them any help.
“Some including pastors and prophets only take big consultation fees and that is all.” he said.
Mr Amenowode also urged executives of the association to ensure that the human rights of their clients were not abused.
Mr Charles Agbeli, a National Executive member of the Association, expressed the preparedness of the Executives to ensure that the right things were done.
