Tarkwa court jails ex-convict for stealing

Tarkwa (W/R) June 27, GNA- A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Friday, jailed a 40- year old ex-convict, Sulemana Seidu for five years, for stealing.

The convict who had previously served 18 months imprisonment at the Sunyani Prisons for stealing a tape recorder, pleaded guilty to all the five counts of stealing.

Seidu's wife, Yahaya Kende, an accomplice who pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing stolen items, has been granted bail in the sum of 2000 Ghana Cedis to re-appear on July 10.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Albert Adiita told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on June 23, the complainants, Ms Juliana Opoku, Ms Victoria Tanoh, Ms Gifty Obeng, Ms Akua Achiamba and Ms Adwoa Nsromah who are all farmers went to a market to buy food items.

He said after the complainants had finished their daily transactions they noticed that the items they had bought were nowhere to be found.

DSP Adiita said the women got information that the convict had been arrested and sent to the police station for stealing a red cock.

He said Seidu confessed to the police that he conspired with his wife to steal the items.
