Ho, June 25, (Kanyi) GNA - Road Safety Enforcement Foundation, a Ho based non-governmental organization, is to help reduce road accidents in the Volta Region.
The Foundation would serve as an organ for enforcing road safety laws and monitor performance and road safety status of commercial vehicles and the health status of drivers of those vehicles.
Togbui Dunyo Hodzi IV, Chief of Ave Atanve and President of the Foundation, said this during a courtesy call on Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, by executives of the Foundation.
He said the Foundation would take critical look at the process of acquisition of driver's licenses, the need for regular maintenance of roads, the existence of an effective towing service and the provision of road signs to reduce accidents in the region.
Mr Amenowode commended the Foundation for the foresight and pledged the support of the Coordinating Council to reducing road accidents in the region.
He said “road accidents are real killers and need more attention and prominence like HIV/AIDS and malaria.”
Mr Amenowode advised the Foundation to work closely with the National Road Safety Commission, the police and road transport unions for rapid reduction of accidents.
