School of Pharmacy to build new laboratory
The School of Pharmacy is to build a new pharmaceutical laboratory to help train up-coming pharmacists. As a result, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Limited has donated fifty thousand dollars to the School in Accra. The Vice President for AstraZeneca South-Saharan Africa, Anver Moola, said the donation forms part of its social responsibility.
He stated that the company which is currently in nineteen countries in Africa aims at increasing pharmaceutical products, adding value to doctors and educating patients. He added that forty Ghanaians have received scholarships to further their education as part of its commitment.
Mr. Moola gave the assurance that the donation will not be the last of its kind but will continue to help in developing the pharmaceutical industry.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Aaron Lante Lawson, said the School of Pharmacy since its establishment in 2007, has faced challenges such as infrastructural development and recruitment of staff. He appealed to stakeholders to assist, since government alone cannot shoulder all these responsibilities.
