The Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, Dr Joseph Samuel Annan, has hinted  that he is in contact with some foreign investors towards the establishment of a new sugar factory at Komenda.

He said plans were underway to establish sugarcane plantations to support the proposed factory.

Dr Annan, who is also a Deputy Minister of Education, disclosed these at a meeting with members of the Komenda community, where he reiterated the aim of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to evolve measures to alleviate poverty in order to reduce crime in the society.

He therefore tasked members and supporters of the NDC to unite and rally solidly behind the government to enable President John Evans Atta Mills to achieve his aims of providing a better Ghana.

Dr Annan also took the opportunity to task executive members of the constituency branch of the party, to hold elections when their terms of office expire to facilitate internal democracy.

He expressed concern that some executive members had overstayed their mandatory two terms in office, adding that some hang on for 16 years, thereby denying the “younger ones the opportunity to also assume responsibilities within the party”.

However, Mr Samuel Woode, constituency chairman, explained that the first term of members, which spans a four- year period, expired in 2005.

He said they were retained for another two year-term due to “their commitment to hard work”.
