Agona Swedru, June 2, GNA - The Agona West Municipal Assembly is to
collaborate with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the
Information Services Department, the Department of Environmental Health and
the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to sensitize the
people to change their attitude towards waste disposal.
This is was stated by the Mr. Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, Municipal Chief
Executive, in a statement issued at Agona Swedru at the weekend.
He noted that this would identify bottlenecks and challenges confronting the
disposal of waste in the municipality for redress and ensure a sustained clean
environmental.
The MCE said the Assembly would organize programmes for leadership
based-organizations such as traditional authorities, religious groups and other
identifiable bodies to improve their capacity to increase awareness on a safe and
clean environment.
He said in-service training would be organized for sanitary inspectors to
improve on their performance especially in shifting from prosecuting people to
providing education on sanitation.
Mr. Obeng-Forson said a taskforce would be set up to evaluate and improve
the revenue generating capacity of the Assembly its major sources, including
markets and lorry parks and stem leakages in the system.
He said efforts would be made to strengthen the capacity of revenue
collectors through training.
The MCE said he would ensure the judicious and transparent use of the
scarce resources.
On Disaster Management, he stated that he would assess the disaster
readiness of NADMO and identify flood-prone areas to take steps to address
the problems.
He said the Assembly would liaise with the Town and Country Planning
Department to identify challenges confronting them in the implementation of
Development Schemes for redress.
