Kumasi, May 27, GNA - Mr. Charles Andoh, a Board Member of the
Saint Peters Co-operative Credit Union in Kumasi, has appealed to operators of
the credit union concept to deepen and strengthen their internal structures.
This, he said, was essential to check malpractices that had crippled
the viability of some credit unions in the country to the disadvantage of their
members.
Mr. Andoh was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview
in Kumasi on Wednesday on the role of the credit union concept in the nation's
economic development, ahead of the First Annual General Meeting of the
Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Credit Unions Association to be held in Kumasi
on May 30.
He said the concept had over the years helped in giving credit facilities
to members to help them expand their businesses and thereby reducing poverty.
He said the meeting is under the theme “Credit Union: The Best
Option for Reliable Partnership in Socio-Economic Development”.
Mr. Andoh said Mr. Emmanuel O. Darko, General Manager of the
Credit Union Association (CUA) in Accra will be the Guest Speaker, Dr. Yaw
Fokuoh, Pharmacy Department of KNUST, Guest of Honour and Dr. B.E.
Kwesi Prah, Rector of Kumasi Polytechnic, Chairman.
He called on shareholders of various unions to attend the function in
their numbers.
