The Head of the English Department at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Lawrence Owusu Ansah, has called on teachers to equip themselves with modern day trends in teaching, so as to meet the challenges of globalisation.

Speaking at a day's 3rd Quadrennial meeting of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), at Elmina on Tuesday, Prof. Owusu Ansah noted that teachers would be left behind, if stakeholders in education did not equip them with various skills in teaching, to meet the current challenges posed by globalisation.

He said the youth of today were very conversant with the modernised world, to the extent that teachers must endeavour to be one-step ahead of them, to enable them give effective tuition, otherwise the children will overshadow them.

He said globalisation started in 1962 in America, but has spread across the globe, making the world a global village where people interact easily, through the use of information technology.

Prof. Owusu Ansah said globalisation had hit every sector of the world, from agriculture to economics, and religion, among others.

The KEEA GNAT Secretary, Mr. William Boadu-Abedi, said the conference was to take stock of the union's activities, and appealed to all stakeholders in education to support teachers to get the requisite skills to meet the challenges of modern day teaching.

He supported the move for a single-spine salary structure, stressing that teachers deserved better motivation to give off their their best.
