'Security Agencies Committed To Fight Against Organised Crime'

The former acting Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, has reiterated the determination of the security agencies to fight organised crime in the country.

The operation was first launched in 2001 and re-launched in 2006 and is currently operative in Accra, Tema and Kumasi.

Mrs Mills-Robertson said with changes in crime trends all over the country, the two agencies have also decided to come together and strategise so that they can deal drastically with the criminals.

“With changes in crime trend all over the world, and the call by  President J.E.A. Mills in his inaugural address to stem the tide in armed robbery so as to ensure peace and security in the country, we deem it proper to re-strategise to enhance our operational effectiveness, hence this re-launch,” she stated.

The re-launch, she noted, was to re-dedicate themselves and refocus their attention to address the robbery scourge threatening various communities.

“We shall do everything humanly possible to flush them out,” he said.

She stated that the security agencies have beefed up their manpower and reinforced their equipment and logistic levels to enable them measure up to the taste.

The outgoing IGP mentioned mobile and foot patrols both day and night, the conducting of frequent swoops at crime endemic areas and the destruction of hide-outs as some of the strategies that will be employed during the joint exercise.

She said the personnel shall also conduct random snap-checks at vantage points on the roads to look out for criminal elements and illegal items such as narcotics drugs, arms and ammunition as well as stolen items including vehicles among others.

Coupled with this, she said they shall also conduct searches in houses, shops, vehicles and other facilities suspected to be habouring criminals and prohibited items.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Peter Blay, urged the personnel to conduct themselves well in the course of the exercise so as to win the confidence of the general public.
