The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, David Venn, on Saturday presented a cheque for GH¢ 3,000 to assist the Osabarima Educational Fund set up by Oguaa Omanhen, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II.
The donation was done at the premises of the Oguaa Traditional Council when the CEO paid a courtesy call on Osabarima and his chiefs as part of his nationwide tour to acquaint himself with the various traditional areas.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Venn said Vodafone decided to make the donation to the fund because Cape Coast served as the citadel of education in Ghana.
He said a lot of work went into the preparation of the successful launch of Vodafone about four weeks ago and that Cape Coast, a historic city of Ghana, was one place that every friend of Ghana must visit.
“For us in Vodafone Ghana, Central Region is one of the regions which is receiving special attention and in the past weeks we have undertaken a number of investments both in infrastructure and people as a way to infuse greater efficiency into our operations and offer customers the global excellence that Vodafone is famous for,” Venn said.
He said Vodafone was established in 1982 and had grown to become one of the world's largest companies with operations in 26 countries and partner networks in other 40 countries with 290 million customers worldwide. According to Venn, Vodafone arrived in Ghana in August 2008 to deploy new technology and introduce world class services to the Ghanaian market and that the excellent delivery of the company was now available to Ghanaians.
Osabarima Atta for his part, thanked Vodafone for the gesture and impressed upon the executives to expand their services to rural communities in the region.
Osabarima also used the occasion invite Vodafone to participate in this year's 'Oguaa Fetu Afahye' which falls on September 5.
He also advised the company to sustain quality services to boost businesses and education.
He revealed that a museum would be built in Cape Coast by the Oguaa Traditional Council to educate the youth and the general public on the history of Cape Coast.
David Venn was accompanied by Major (rtd), Albert Don-Chebe, Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Joseph Tinagyei, Regional Manager of Vodafone among others.
