The Minister of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, yesterday left the newly-constructed hockey site in Accra, impressed about the state of work.

Reacting to his impression about the project, which is expected to be completed on June 20, he stated, “I'm amazed at the pace at which the work is moving. The last time I was here, the project was at its embryonic stage. I hope they will sustain the speed and complete as scheduled.”

The engineer of the project, Mr. Jimmy Castagna, gave the assurance that his team was working around the clock to meet the deadline, saying, “We are on course, and like we finished the Ohene Djan Stadium as promised, so shall we complete this project.”

He added the limited time (49 days more) at his disposal, has put intense pressure on he and his team, and that has kept them on their toes since.

A working visit by the Minister, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), revealed that the project was nearing completion, and baring any unforeseen incidents, will be completed as scheduled.

An encounter with the contractors of the water-based pitch, EDEL Grass, revealed that it will be ready for use by June 12. Messrs Martein Damen, Kwaku Okyere of KLOG Ghana Limited, local representatives of EDEL Grass, confirmed that plans were far advanced to replace the sand-based turf with a water-based one.
