Leadership of Muslim communities have been urged to ensure that their areas were peaceful and devoid of criminals. This, they can do by forming watchdog committees to keep an eye over their communities.
The Minister of the Interior, Cletus Avoka, said this last Saturday at the ondooring and installation of Alhaji Bukari Hamidu, as chief of the Muslim community at Fise, near Amasaman, in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region.
Mr Avoka said by keeping vigilance over their communities they would guard against people who infiltrated into their communities to cause violence and create bad image for their people.
He said the country needed a peaceful atmosphere to attract investors into the economy
Touching on other areas, Mr Avoka advised muslims to aspire to acquire highest education possible, especially the girl child “adding we are in the era of certificate and documents without which you can not recognised.”
He also appealed to them to keep and live in a clean environment in order to avoid contracting diseases.
The Interior Minister underscored the role muslims played in the politics of the country and said the government would reciprocate their contribution.
Mr Avoka praised the chief for his elevation as the leader of the muslim community adding “I hope with the support of your people, you will be a successful leader.”
Alhaji Muhammed Mumund, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said Islam enphasised on education and reminded muslims to acquire both formal and secular education to improve their lot.
He advised the community to solidly rally behind the chief to lead them to success while advising the chief to lead “an open-door-policy.”
The Member of Parliament for Turobo/Turobu, Ernest Attukwei Armah praised the peaceful atmosphere with which the chief was installed saying “this shows a sign of unity and love among you.”
The National Chief Imam, Shiekh Nuhu Sharabutu who performed the religious rite to outdoor the chief prayed for God's guidance for the community and the nation.
He reminded muslims that leaders were chosen with the blessings of God and asked the people to cooperate with the chief and live in peace and harmony.
The chief of Fise, Nii Asafoatse Lartei Mingle, performed the customary rites for the installation of the chief which was witnessed by over 40 ethnic leaders and chiefs in the Accra Metropolis.
