Prophetess In Court Over Fictitious Trading

By G. B. Gibbah, Ashaiman - newtimesonline.com

A 60-year-old self-styled prophetess has appeared before the Ashaiman Circuit Court for engaging in  fictitious trading. Abigail Nuamah initially pleaded guilty to the offence but after listening to her  explanation, the court presided over by Mr Seyram Tsatsu Yaw Azumah changed her plea to not guilty.

She was granted GH¢10,000 bail with one surety to appear again on May 22.

Prosecuting  Chief Inspector, Enyonam Klu, in May last year, the accused was introduced to the complainant, a dealer in electrical gadgets by one Sandra who now lives in the United States of America.

At the meeting the accused  showed interest in items offered for sale at complainant's shop and subsequently went into agreement with her to be given electrical items worth GH¢8,270 on credit for payment to be made after sales.

The items were 208 boxes of chargeable fans, six boxes of table top fans, 10 boxes chargeable  lights, 35 boxes, seven  boxes of fluorescent  lamps and seven boxes of short batteries.

The accused, according to the prosecutor,  promised to pay for the goods within three months but she never turned up again.

After another three months had elapsed without the accused showing up the complainant reported the case to Community Police on February 21 this year and she was arrested.

In her caution statement, the accused admitted collecting the items for sale and pleaded with the police to give her two weeks to raise the money, but several weeks passed and nothing was heard from her so the police re-arrested her and charged her with the offence.
