Plantain thief fined GHC 200
Kade, April 30, GNA - Kofi Frederick Asamani, a farmer who stole a bunch of plantain worth GHC 5, was on Wednesday sentenced to a fine of GHC 200.
In default Asamani, who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for 30 days in hard labour.
Police Chief Inspector J.Y. Cromwell told the court that the complainant, Mr Amanor Kwadwo, had a plantain farm at Bessaso near Pramkese and had lately been experiencing theft on him farm.
He said on April 17, he decided to mount guard at the farm in order to apprehend the culprit.
The prosecutor said about 0330 hours on that day Asamani entered the farm with his dog and started to harvest the plantain.
After harvesting the first plantain and in attempt to harvest a second one, the dog felt the presence of somebody and started barking.
He said Asamani was scared and attempted to flee but the complainant sprang from his hide-out, arrested him and took him to the police station.
