Ministry moves to save Marcus Garvey guest house
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr. Alexander Asum-Ahensah and Dr. Julius Garvey, son of the late Pan Africanist, Marcus Mosiah Garvey have jointly opened the refurbished Marcus Garvey Guest House at the W. E. B. Dubois Centre in Accra, on Friday.
The long-neglected Marcus Garvey Guest House, located within the W. E. B. Dubois centre has been renovated and refurbished through the initiative of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, and the African Union's Diaspora African Forum, headquartered in Ghana.
In his keynote address, the Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture said that he was honoured to be part of an effort by the African Union's Diaspora African Forum to bring back to light such an important edifice in the name of an Africa's hero, Marcus Garvey. The Minister underscored the importance that Ghanaians attached to people who we name after us; and assured the gathering that his Ministry would work closely with the Diaspora African Forum to ensure that the Guest House is put to good use and also bring more developmental projects into Ghana.
