Mrs Juliana A. Mensah, Minister of Tourism, handing over the keys to the Hotel Catering and Tourism Training (HOTCATT) Institute to Professor Yaw A. Badu, Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

With them is Mr. Martin Mireku Executive Director of Ghana Tourist Board (G.T.B.)

The HOTCATT has been integrated into GIMPA to enhance its effectiveness.

It was established in 1990 and began operation 1991 to upgrade the skills and competence of all levels of personnel in the hotel, catering and tourism sector to help transform Ghana into a competitive tourism destination.

Mrs Mensah explained that the integration was due to its inability to respond to need for quality training in the tourism industry.

She stressed that the integration would ensure that the human resource capacity (quality and quantity) required for tourism development was in line with demands of the industry.

Mrs Mensah urged with the authorities of GIMPA to live up to expectation within the MOU signed with the Ministry by turning HOTCATT into a centre of excellence.
