GHANA IN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY: A SYNOPSIS

After a series of articles outlining what we believe our country is going to look like in the generations ahead, we would like to imagine what it would look like in reality as measured meticulously in these already published articles.

First of all, in the capital city of the Brong Ahafo, Sunyani, the Army Headquarters and its intelligence office would be in place. Everyday two Air Force Planes would leave their base and fly over through Wenchi area to the south of the country making recognizance in the Secondi/Tarkoradi , and later to the Oils fields and then return to their base through the capital city of Accra back to their base in Sunyani. Two other Air Force planes from their base will also fly to conduct recognizance through the Northern borders of Tamale and then turn downward to the Volta River to check the Volta Dam at Akosombo and then return to their base. Internal intelligence will be conducted through daily patrols which they authorities know very well how they function in their world.

At the Volta Region, the capital Ho will host the Headquarters of the Ghana Police and their intelligence office. Their main concern will be the illegal immigrants from certain countries in the West Africa and their dealings with counterfeit currencies which we envisage it will increase due to the rate of development in Ghana and the new era of democracy. The police intelligence will operate from this headquarters and it will be effective in their searches throughout the nation due to the existence of modern technology. For example, in briefing the most powerful person in the country, that is, the President of the Republic of Ghana, about the security of the day, they shall use the video conference instead of personal briefing. The use of modern technology will make the Ghana Police very effective and strong in their quest to reduce crime rate and narcotic trafficking in the country. It is also envisaged that there will be modern dual-carriage roads and highways that it will make it easy for certain troops to be transported into the capital, especially on the occasion of the Independence Day and other important anniversaries.

Koforidua as the financial city will be busy especially the roads and highways will be very busy. But it will be augmented with the fasted city line railway known as the Mampong line, which transports daily workers working in these two important cities. Apart from the different banks that will be established which will also have their head offices, many hotel buildings and skyscrapers will be seen in the air of this famous city. It will spread modern manner of commuting between two busy cities in the West Africa. Like New York and Washington, London and Manchester, Koforidua and Accra will expand such that the need of a separate Airport in the Koforidua region, probably near New and Old Tafo will be needed.

Sekondi/Takoradi will be a very busy region with the Oil Head offices in place. But there will be other businesses such different Casinos and Modern Hotels. Because of the Harbour many tourists will prefer to stay in these regions and have nice sea breeze as well as enjoy the hospitality of many people journeying from Europe and the USA via Caribbean here to the Atlantic coast by boats. This will give job opportunity for many Ghanaians such as security officers, hotel warders, Casino warders, servants in the rich people homes and ship crew. These areas will be one of the most populated regions in the country.

Accra will be calmed as compared to Tarkoradi/Sekondi but as the capital city of the country, there will some businesses that will prefer to settle there too. Because the Ghana Armed Force moved to the Brong Ahafo it has created enough room for monumental apartments which families with jobs are capable of buying. The city is planned such that there are very few Estate housing apart from these Monumental apartments which are mostly found in Sweden and other socialist countries. Still there some tall building apartments like the ones found in New York, the Coop city, that is the Bronze.

The Aburi Mountains have the rich and famous houses and this shows that people living there have quite a lot of money and so they frequently buy poor houses and erect new ones to replace them. The capital will resemble more like the city of Washington DC as a part from the Golden Jubilee House and the Supreme Court House, there will be antique houses mostly public buildings with nice architectural designs and sculptures. As President of the National House of Chiefs, Otumfo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene of Kumasi will like to possess one of his Modern palaces there in the capital city. He accomplishes the building easily by asking for money and help from all the Akans and Ghanaians with citizens abroad to donate. He obtains this help (huge sums) and erects one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, like the Windsor castle in Britain. If the Government has enough money or resources, in the future the National House of Chiefs will have their own parliament building. But for the interim they can use the same Parliament House like the parliamentarians (Legislators).

THE POWER STRUCTURE
The People of Ghana (citizens) elect their Parliamentarians and the President of the Republic of Ghana. This takes two days at most and this becomes a legitimate procedure. But for the President of the Republic of Ghana, that is, the most powerful man in the Republic, his election is not yet over. Though the people has the power and has the ultimate audacity to elect, for the president of Ghana, he still has to go through a second election by the National House of Chiefs, the Symbolic Electors of the Republic of Ghana.

HOW THIS IS DONE
The National House of Chiefs convenes in the Parliament House and use Two days to elect the most powerful man in the Republic of Ghana. The first day concerns the speeches given by each at most 15 minutes to advocate why the elected President should be endorsed to become the most powerful man in the country. This is followed by the elected President coming also to give 15 minutes speech concerning why he thinks he can do the assigned job of the President of the Republic of Ghana. Parliament session is adjourned with the chiefs going into their hotels and probably having a nice dinner. With the President being present a toast is given and the Chiefs return to their hotels to convene the next day to cast their votes.

While a vote will be cast by the National House of Chiefs to elect the President which will be “YES” and “NO”, there is no occasion when the chiefs will go against the will of the people who holds the power of the country. A “no” from some few might be a protest which will not affect the overall result of the winning of the majority.

There will be “Automatic No” to someone who comes by himself as a coup maker or assassination of en elected President. This person will be imprisoned for live or executed according to the Law of Treason.
