For Mr. Oko-Nikoi Dzanie, chairman of Ghana Hockey Association and the vice chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC),Ghana 2009 hockey tourney, the forthcoming hockey championship is a dream come true.
“Nobody thought LOC will go beyond soccer, but here we are today inaugurating a LOC sub-committee,” were the words of the hockey boss at the inauguration of the 7-sub-committees last Friday at the LOC secretariat, Accra.
Mr. Dzanie expressed shock despite having handed the rights to host the competition scheduled from July 10-18, 2009, saying “We never believe it will happen in our time.”
The hockey boss urged members of the LOC as well as the sub-committee to be up and doing in their respective tasks since it is a national event. “Everybody is looking up to us to deliver and we must ensure we leave a legacy so that other disciplines will take a cue from the sport,” said Mr Dzanie.
The chairman of the LOC Mr. Abuga Pele, also charged members not to sit on the fence, but rather get all hands on deck to ensure the successful hosting of the tournament.
