Mr Simon Ogah, Techiman Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education, has urged members of gender civic clubs to intensify community educational programmes.

He explained that under the 1992 Constitution, members of the clubs could participate in national development through political, social, economic and economic empowerment of the citizenry.

Mr Ogah was addressing a meeting of 40 gender clubs from Tuobodom, Offuman, Aworowa, Bamiri, Forikrom, Tanoso, Krobo, Akrofrom and Techiman under the theme, “The role of gender and managing democracy in the country” at Techiman.

He said the Millennium Development Goals (MDAs) were aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing gender equity through balance, decision making process and programmes towards good governance.

“Women can play a key role if men develop good habits towards members of their families, particularly wives through gender balance and sustainability,” Mr Ogah stressed.

He asked them to focus more on poverty reduction and the empowerment of their members to help organise communal labour in their communities to reduce environmental pollution.

Madam Georgina Opoku, who presided, advised them to distinguish between civic society and partisan politics to achieve their main objectives and win confidence of the public.
