Court grants bail to tanker driver involved in fatal Winneba road accident

The Winneba Magistrate Court, on Thursday granted 10,000 Ghana Cedis bail with three sureties to Isaac Ampaah, the Gas Tanker driver, whose vehicle exploded in an accident at Gomoa Bewadze, killing and maiming a number of people on March 18.

The plea of Ampaah was not taken and the court presided over by Mr. Ben Attabra, adjourned the case indefinitely to enable the police to complete their investigations.

The court also ordered Ampaah who had made his second appearance to the court, to report at the Winneba Police station every Monday.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Naa-Kolgo Agbegne told the court that, on March 18, Ampaah who was driving the tanker had a head-on collision with a saloon car.

The tanker, which was heading towards Takoradi exploded leading to the burning of two passenger vehicles, resulting in one death at the spot while 35 others received various degree of injuries.

The court remanded Ampaah who is on a provisional charge of reckless driving and negligently causing harm in prison custody, when he made his first appearance on March 19.
