Need for research institutions and industry to collaborate - Adjei

Mr James Asare-Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of ASADTEK Industries Limited, on Tuesday called for effective collaboration between industry and research institutions to enhance development of new products.

He said research findings should be commercialised to serve as a reliable source of generating funds to support activities of research institutions.

Mr Asare-Adjei made the call when presenting 200 pieces of roofing sheets valued at GH¢2,900 to the management of Animal Research Institute (ARI) of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) at Frafraha, near Accra.

He said research findings must be applied to enhance the development and production of new products and not allowed to remain on the shelves.

Mr Asare-Adjei noted that when research findings were well utilised Ghana could wean herself from dependence on foreign expertise to develop the economy.

He urged research institutions to delve into solutions to the numerous problems affecting Ghana's socio-economic development.

Dr Naaminong Karbo, Director of ARI, receiving the items said as a result of climate change, the institute would soon develop new plant species which could withstand dry weather conditions.

He appealed to Government and security agencies for assistance to prevent encroachment on the institute's land.

ASADTEK Industries Limited, located on the Spintex Road manufactures roofing materials, slide doors and windows, cooking utensils and other building and home appliances.
