AIESEC launches ICT project at KNUST

AN ACHIEVFIMENT, Innovative, Sustainable, Leadership and Endowment (AIESEC) programme, an international platform for young people to discover and develop their potentials and make positive impact on society has been launched in Kumasi.

It was under the theme: "Bridging the digital gap between the Urban and the Rural Child through ICT". The Local President of the project, Mr. Joseph Graham said the project would contribute to strengthening the efforts of other organizations and Government in attaining the objectives of the "ICT for accelerated development" initiative.

He explained that Empowering Africa Programme (EAP) is an initiative of the Africa Region Growth Network (GN) which aims at impacting on a significant number of African youth by offering them the platform for self discovery and learning by working on projects around topics such as ICT.

According to Mr. Graham, the project further aims to contribute to the effort of the Government of Ghana and other organizations in achieving the Millennium Development Goal of accelerated development, by introducing the use of the basic application systems in systems in deprived schools and giving the student education through computer use.

Mr. Graham indicated the project would as well deliver learning opportunities through workshops and group exercises to promote the development of computer literacy among the youth and increase the ability and skills of the use of the computer among the Youth .

He disclosed that ICT centres would be created in participating schools as a follow up to the knowledge disseminated among participants and help encourage them take IT as a profession.

The Local president of the project has called for support from the government and major stakeholders to sustain the project.
