Mr. Seth Kofi Antwi, Administrator of the Kintampo South District Hospital at Jema, said that the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme owes the health institution more than One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana cedis, covering November 2008 and March 2009.

He said the situation was affecting the operations of the hospital and that it was facing the problem of inadequate drugs and equipment.

Mr Antwi, in an interview with GNA at Kintampo, said that “our suppliers are now reluctant to provide us with drugs because we also owe them. Currently we are facing shortage of syringes, which we have had to borrow from Kintampo North Municipal Hospital in recent times”, Mr. Antwi added.

Mr. Ernest Asumang, Principal Pharmacy Technician at the Hospital, said some patients were given prescription forms to purchase drugs outside the hospital.

However, some patients who remained anonymous alleged to GNA that the situation was deliberate to deny them of quality service because they were insured clients.
