Aspiring DCE outlines vision for district

By Frank Mensah Kumasi - Ghanaian Chronicle

MR. KWABENA Asamoah Badu, an aspiring District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sekyere Central District at Nsuta in the Ashanti region has outlined his vision for the infant district, saying he has lived in the district and understands the problems facing the people.

According to him, he believes that with the help of competent human resources at the assembly he can implement the vision of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the district.

Speaking to the media at the NDC regional office in Kumasi over the weekend, he mentioned water, sanitation, education, small scale enterprises and health as some of the areas he could give priority attention to when he gets the nod to occupy the seat as DCE for the infant district. "Education is the greatest assets we can give to our children and it is for this reason that I would want to make it a priority", he stressed.

He said traders would receive a boost from his administration to make them strong enough to contribute to the revenue base of the district assembly and also have better lives for themselves.

Mr. Asamoah traced his affiliation with the NDC to 1979, when he was elected as the Secretary to the Amoamang People's Defence Committee (PDC) and has also held many positions at the Ejura and the Effiduase districts before the new district was created last year, as part of the New Patriotic Party administration's local drive.

In a related development, a group calling itself "The Patriotic Forum of Nsuta" has threatened to stage a massive demonstration should their obvious choice for the appointment of the DCE, Mr. Kwabena Asamoah Badu be rejected. The group, whose membership is made up of foot soldiers of the Independent candidate in the last elections, but voted for Professor Atta Mills during the run-off, said among other things that Mr. Asamoah Badu, who has gone through the NDC "political mill" from the days of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) to NDC, knows the terrain of the area more than any of the contestants.

According to the group, he is sociable and someone who would be able to organize the entire people in the constituency for effective development.

Additionally, the group maintained that they would work to harness and mobilize all resources to ensure that the NDC constituency executives work hard to wrestles the parliamentary seat from the NPP in the next general elections.
