Tsakos Shipping Company Donates To Manhean Community

The management of Tsakos Shipping and Trading Agency, subsidiary of Greece-based Tsakos International Oil Shipping Group of Companies yesterday presented items worth 10,000 dollars to residents of Tema Manhean.
    
The items which included 60 cartons of milk and 50 boxes of used clothing form part of the company's corporate social responsibility which focuses primarily on education, health and sports.
     
Mrs Deborah Eleazar, Director of Tsakos Shipping (London) in-charge of West African Affairs, said the relationship between the management and residents of Tema Manhean has been very cordial since it began operations in Ghana.
     
She said Ghanaian crew employed on their vessels between 2005 and 2008 earned about 11 million dollars, and this has contributed  to Ghana's economy while docking, repairing of vessels and purchasing  of local spare parts spent about nine million dollars since 2005.
     
Mrs Eleazer said management have built a Greek Orthodox Church at Tema Manhean and constructing a day care and health centre for the community.
     
She said in addition, Captain Panagiotis Nikolas Tsakos, President of Tsakos Group of Companies has established an educational endowment fund with seed money of about 1, 000 Ghana Cedis for brilliant but needy students in the community.
     
Nii Adjei Kraku 11, Paramount Chief of Tema, expressed appreciation to the management for their goodwill towards the community.
    
He appealed to the management to inform the traditional authorities of problems affecting their operations in the community.
     
In another development, the management presented similar items worth 1,000 Ghana cedis to the authorities of Winners Basic School at Tema Manhean.
