By Sebastian R. Freiku in Kumasi - Ghanaian Chronicle

REPORTS REACHING The Chronicle indicate that a delegation of the Ashanti NPP caucus over the weekend embarked on a mission to Kumasi with the Objective of schooling NPP assembly members to kick against the bid of Nana Kofi Senyah to become the Presiding member of the House.

Sources close to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Member of Parliament for Kwadaso and Chairman of the NPP Manifesto Committee who is said to be the leader of the NPP caucus has already met with selected assemblymen to that effect.

The Chronicle gathered the other members of the delegation, which is spearheading the crusade against Nana Senyah's aspiration, include Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, MP for Asokwa and former KMA boss, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, MP for Suame and Minority Leader.

The NPP caucus prefers the candidature of one of the traditional rulers yet to be appointed as a government appointee to Nana Senyah, Assembly member for New Suame Electoral area and former presiding member.

With the revocation of the appointment of Baffour Adjei Kesse V, the Adumhene who until October 30 last year was the Presiding Member, Nana Senyah remains the only contender, who believes that somebody who knows the operations and functions of the local government system inside out must hold the position.

New faces, he noted, has not always helped because the Assembly is dragged backwards in its operations since a completely new presiding member would have to acquaint himself with the system before becoming effective over years at the expense of development.

The former presiding Member has been advocating an objective leadership of the house and has cautioned against the house being run on partisan lines.

He is on record to have stated that the reconstituted KMA would not tolerate any MCE who runs the KMA on partisan lines.

Meanwhile, Nana Senyah says the solution to the congestion of the metropolis is the reconstruction of the Kumasi central Market and has advised the in-coming Metro Chief executive to make the project the Assembly's priority in order to forestall the periodic abortive and expensive decongestion exercises coupled with displacement of traders thus affecting livelihood of residents.

In a related issue, KMA sources indicate that elected members would not endorse the imposition of any person on the house. They threaten to stage a boycott of the confirmation of MCE yet to be appointed. if the worse situation comes to the worst.

Another option is for the members to massively vote against the president's nominee and ensure his total rejection.
