Farmer fined for stealing roofing sheets

The Nyinahin Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Augustine Essah, has imposed a fine of GH¢200 on a 32 year-old farmer, Kofi Boateng, for unlawful entry and stealing 18 pieces of roofing sheets.

The property, which belongs to Nana Yaw also from Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District is valued at GH¢150.

Boateng, who pleaded guilty to the charge, would serve six months imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

In addition, the accused was also bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months and in default serve six months imprisonment.

Police Chief Inspector Napoleon Isaac Asherow told the court that the complainant, who kept his five packets of roofing sheets in his uncompleted house, live in the same vicinity with the accused at Nyinahin.

Prosecution said, on January 25, 2009 at about 0500 hours the accused took advantage of the absence of the complainant and stole the 18 pieces of the roofing sheets from the five packets.

He said the accused then approached one Amma Serwaa, a 75 year-old woman to sell the stolen roofing sheets to her in order to enable him pay his wife's hospital bill.

The prosecutor also said a witness, who saw Boateng selling the roofing sheets, informed the complainant and they reported the incident to the police and the accused was arrested.

Prosecution further said the accused was charged with the offence after investigations.
