Ashanti chiefs charge on Mills… For breaching Constitution

THE ADANSI Traditional Council (ATC) has expressed concern over the failure of President John Evans Attah Mills to consult the Council in the appointment of Government Appointees to the three district assemblies within the Traditional Area. The assemblies are Adansi North, Adansi South and Obuasi Municipality.

In a letter dated 23rd February, 2009, under the headline “Composition of District Assemblies, Government Appointees” and signed by its Acting President, Okofo Sobin Kan II, the Council disassociated itself from the appointment of new Government Appointees to the three assemblies.

The letter, which was addressed to the Adansi North District Coordinating Director, was in response to an earlier one by the Assembly dated 19th February, 2009, which summoned the Registrar of the Council to attend the assembly's emergency meeting on Monday 23rd February, 2009, during which the new Government Appointees were to be introduced and sworn in.

The Council also copied the letter to the Minister, Local Government and Rural Development, the Regional Coordinating Director, Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, the
