At least 11 people have died; 10 on the spot, and one later at the Winneba Government Hospital, when a Takoradi-Accra bound passenger Ford bus rammed into a broken-down articulated truck at Gomoa Okyereko, near Winneba on Monday morning.
The Effutu Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Nana Ofori, told the Ghana News Agency that six others, including driver of the bus were in critical condition at the hospital.
ASP Ofori said the corpses, which were yet to be identified, had been deposited at the hospital's mortuary for autopsy.
Nana Ofori appealed to members of the public, especially those whose relatives were travelling from Takoradi to Accra to check on them and when necessary contact the Winneba Police.
He expressed concern about the rate of accident on the Winneba-Accra road and appealed to drivers to be extra careful.
According to the Police, about four accidents have occurred within the past 14 days claiming many lives.
