Iranian Delegation Calls On President Mills

A 10 member Iranian delegation, headed by Mr Mohammad Reza Bagheri, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arabic and African Affairs, yesterday called on President John Evans Atta Mills at the Castle Osu, in Accra to present a congratulatory letter.

The visit was to present a laudatory letter from the Iranian President to President Mills for his victory during the elections as well as invite him to visit the Republic of Iran.

Prof Atta Mills lamented that the global financial crisis causing harm to many nations, particularly African countries, saying, 'It is time to look into the situation and see how best to cover the lapses.'

He said that the time has come to foster stronger relationship between the two countries and explore the possibilities of putting measures in place that will benefit both countries.

The President commended the Iranian Government for their continued support to Ghana and said that the two counties have long good relationship and ought to strengthen the tides for the betterment of the people.

Mr Bagheri, on his part, said that the delegation will hold talks with some of the government officials to deliberate on the future of the two countries. 'I hope in the near future the people of Ghana will see the fruits of the good relationship between Ghana and Iran,' he added.
