Sixty-three residents of Obogu in the Asante Akim South District, have been rendered homeless following a strong windstorm that swept through the community on Tuesday.

The condition, which preceded a downpour and lasted less than a minute, ripped off the roofing of six building including a Church, which also served as classroom for kindergarten children of the Saviour Church of Ghana.

The displaced persons who are currently putting up with families and friends were seen busily packing their belongings from their homes when the GNA visited the community on Wednesday.

Mr. Amos Afari, a 70 year-old victim, who had the roof of his house completely ripped off, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and philanthropists to come to their aid since the cost of repairs would be too huge for them to bear.

Mr. Kwaku Asante, Assembly Member for the area, expressed sympathy to the victims and called on the assembly and other benevolent organizations to assist them.

He, however, advised the people to plant trees to serve as windbreaks and also regularly maintain their buildings to forestall future occurrence.
