The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) on Thursday donated three sets of computers and accessories valued at GH¢4,500 to local government institutions working in the Upper East Region to aid their anti-HIV/AIDS programmes.

The beneficiaries are Kassena-Nankana district, Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly and the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council (UERCC).

Mr. Samuel Dery, Management and Information Systems Officer at the GAC who presented the computers, said the selection of the beneficiaries was based on their excellent performance in a Country Response Information System launched by the Commission.

He said 21 district and municipal assemblies in addition to all 10 Regional Co-ordinating Councils will benefit from the package to boost data collection, which was vital in assessing the level of performance and success of AIDS management programmes.

Mr. Dery said there was the need for constant monitoring of AIDS related activities in the country in order to have a sound and measurable idea of the pandemic to enable government and other concerned bodies work assiduously at reducing the effect of the disease.

A Deputy Regional Co-ordinating Director at the UERCC, Mr. Sharif Mumuni Billey, received the computers and said they would facilitate monitoring of HIV/AIDS activities in the region.
