Ghana receives commendation by APRM

Ghana continues to receive commendation for the recent remarkable election, bolstering her performance at the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)

The development has changed the image of Ghana which has reached an appreciable interest globally as other countries yearn to share in her experiences and

are asking for assistance as they begin their review processes.

A statement in Accra from the APRM secretariat signed by Ms. Cornelia Amoah the Public Relation Officer said this was the view of different meetings held at the secretariat with some prominent groups in recent weeks.

For example, the Visiting Norwegian Delegation for Partnership Feasibility Studies held a technical meeting with the Governing Council at the APRM Secretariat in Accra and has also visited the University of Ghana to discuss institutional collaboration around the APRM.

“An EU delegation has already held a meeting to explore the APRM's perspective on the recent elections,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Uganda has also extended an invitation to Ghana for technical assistance as the country prepared to go through the implementation of its APRM Programme of Action while ECOWAS was seeking to share Ghana's experiences already accepted as the best practices.

The statement said at the last AU summit in Ethiopia, President Yayi Boni of Benin acknowledged and thanked Ghana for her leading role in the APRM and for the support to his country.

It said the inauguration of the District Oversight Committees had also attracted attention internationally as a unique feature of the implementation of the APRM.

Meanwhile, the inauguration of APRM District Oversight Committees in the Upper East Region will be conducted to deepen the knowledge of the populace in their civic responsibilities and in good governance, the statement added.
