The Osu Police in Accra, have
arrested three workers of Bugri Naabu Construction Limited,
who allegedly diverted an excavator belonging to the company
for a private business, leading to the destruction of the 350,000-
dollar equipment.
The three; Joseph Kwame, operator of the excavator, Isaac
Edusei, an engineer of the company and William Njebichey an
accountant, who were arrested on Thursday, are assisting the
Police in their investigations.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) John Anane, the
Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra, that the
workers were executing a road contract on behalf of the
company at Akante in the Eastern Region in September 2008,
when they diverted the heavy duty machine to a muddy site
nearby.
He said the three accomplices collected 600 Ghana cedis
from the illegal contract and engaged the excavator, which got
stuck in a mud for a month, without informing the Managing
Director (MD) of the Company, Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu.
ASP Anane said when the MD got wind of the situation and
intervened to salvage the equipment, it was damaged beyond
repairs.
He said the Police would prosecute the three accused
persons after it conclude its investigations.
