MPs Ex-Gratia Blocked

Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo Information reaching DAILY GUIDE at press time yesterday indicated that the controversial ex-gratia paid into the bank accounts of members of the last Parliament had been blocked.

Sources told DAILY GUIDE that some Members of Parliament (MPs) who went to their banks ostensibly to withdraw money went home disappointed as they could not access the cash.

The blockage, according to sources, may not be unconnected with the recent agitations that greeted the entire ex-gratia packages awarded to appointees of the last administration.

Even though some of the MPs are said to have withdrawn part of the cash award, others went to banks yesterday only to be told that a directive had been given that they should stop payments.

The directive is said to have been issued by the Bank of Ghana on behalf of the Government Transitional Team. Some MPs, particularly NDC members, were said to be furious over the decision, questioning the rationale behind the embargo.
