Nasiru Alidu A 22-year-old man who wanted to outsmart a taxi driver in the early hours of yesterday around the Nima Junction has been arrested by the Nima Police in Accra.

The suspect, Nasiru Alidu, and an accomplice who is at large boarded an Opel taxi with registration number GR 2021 S at about 10am on Wednesday morning from Odwona to Nima.

According to the Nima Divisional Commander, ACP Angwubutuge Awuni, the driver of the taxi, Samuel Tetteh, on reaching the Nima Junction, crossed the red light and was intercepted by a police officer.

Whilst the driver was being questioned by the police, Nasiru who was seated at the front passenger side of the cabbie allegedly stole an amount of GH¢180 which Tetteh had wrapped in a duster and passed it to his accomplice who was seated at the back of the taxi.

Tetteh later realised that the passenger at the back seat had vanished but Nasiru was waiting by the taxi, and when he confronted Nasiru over the disappearance of his duster containing the sum of money, he denied having any knowledge about the money, adding that his friend might have bolted with it.

Luck however ran out on Nasiru when a search in a polythene bag he was carrying revealed three large parcels of dried leaves suspected to be wee.

Nasiru has been kept in police custody and would be arraigned after investigations.
