A Ghanaian national accused of having sexual contact with a teenage Ithaca girl will get another trial starting this week.

Eunock “ez” Gyamfi is charged with third-degree rape, a Class E felony.

His first trial in November ended in a hung jury, and a jury for his second trial was selected Monday. Gyamfi's second trial begins Wednesday.

Gyamfi and Samuel A. Frimpong, also a Ghanaian national, were accused of coming to Ithaca from their homes in the Bronx and engaging in sexual contact with the girls, who were between 13 and 15 years old, according to court papers. The incident allegedly occurred in a parking lot near the Chestnut Hill apartment complex on Elm Street in Ithaca last January, Tompkins County Sheriff's officials said.

Gyamfi was charged with third-degree rape, and Frimpong, also known as “Samuel F. Asante,” was charged with second-degree criminal sexual act, a Class D felony.

He pleaded guilty to the crime in July and was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a level-one sex offender.

Gymafi's trial began Nov. 6, and the jury retired to deliberate on the afternoon of Nov. 12. They came back at about 4 p.m. that day without a verdict, and Tompkins County Judge John Rowley declared a mistrial.
