Fraudulent 'Landlord' Arrested
31.01.2009 LISTEN

Nii Arday Bentum A 35-YEAR-old self-styled landlord, Sylvester Nii Arday Bentum is in the grips of the Greater Accra Regional Police for defrauding prospective tenants of several thousands of Ghana cedis.

The police has so far received 32 complaints from persons who claim to have been lured to part with huge sums of money varying between GH¢800 and GH¢1,400 with the promise of being offered apartments at Laterbiokorshie in Accra.

According to the police, Nii Arday who resides in a family house at Latebiokorshie posed as a landlord and employed the services of self-styled estate agents who went about scouting for prospective tenants.

These tenants were introduced to Nii Arday who then took them for inspection at the family house, promising to renovate the building as soon as possible for them to occupy.

Armed with this information, the unsuspecting victims who were each conducted round the building on separate occasions became convinced enough and parted with huge sums of money to their prospective landlord.

After a while, neither was the room renovated nor the monies paid by the 32 prospective tenants refunded to them.

Nii Arday rather started playing hide-and-seek with the 32 who lodged complaints against him with the regional police after which he was arrested and remanded pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, a check at the National Police Headquarters also revealed that Nii Arday Bentum had been on the police wanted list for committing similar offences but had always escaped arrest.
