The chiefs of Nkusukum Traditional Area have appealed to the government of President John Evans Atta Mills to intensify exploration of oil in the Saltpond area.

Okesse Essandoh VIII, Omanhene of the Nkusukum Traditional, Area, made the appeal in a message to congratulate President Mills on his election.

Okesse Essandoh said though oil was first found in Ghana off the coast of Saltpond, not much was being done about it.

The message said recent reports indicated that the oil deposit at Saltpond could be compared to what had been found at Cape Three Points and that equal attention must be given to it.

Okesse Essandoh pledged the support of the people of the area to the new government.

"This is the first time that a citizen of the Central Region has ascended the highest office of the land and we hope he will live up to expectation," he said.

The message reminded President Mills of the poverty level of the area and appealed to him to do all within his power to reverse it.
