Rivers AC In The Eyes Of Rivers Women
13.01.2009 LISTEN

His 40th birthday which took place on the 4th of January this year has attracted comments from all the walks of life, most especially from the Women Executives of the Women Wing of Rivers AC who visited the Rivers State AC Leader, Prince Tonye Princewill on 11th January at his residence at old GRA, Port Harcourt. The women came to congratulate him for successfully hosting Nigerians of different calibers during his birthday.

Dr. Mrs. Edith Wele led the women while Engr. Mrs Ngozi Edward, the Secretary of the Group, read a message which stated that by the calibre of Nigerians that attended both the Lecture organized in the honour of his birthday and the Thanksgiving service no member of the party is in doubt of the potentials and capability of the Leader to lead the party to glory in the State.

The message reads: “We just felt that we should visit you at this time not only to identify with you now that you have come of age to lead our party to glory but to assure you of our continued support and loyalty in all your efforts to better the future of the party in the State. We will like to reiterate that now that Nigerians has anointed you formally as the crown Prince of Niger Delta Politics, the burden on you now becomes more pronounced and demanding. We wish that the Almighty God will grant you the required wisdom to make the difference in the affairs and emancipation of our people in the Niger Delta region and to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself to enhance the greatness of our region.”

According to a statement credited to the party's Publicity Secretary, Chief eze Chukwuemeka Eze said, Princewill thanked the Women for being the first group to have visited him immediately after the energy tasking events of his birthday and reiterated that he is still dumbfounded with the goodwill messages and encomiums on him by some revered names in the Nigerian politics.

Hear Princewill, “I agree with you people that with that event the golden fish has no where else to hide any more. That notwithstanding, I am convinced that with your prayers and support, I hope to succeed as I do my best to contribute in the rebuilding exercise of our State and the region. I commend you women and all members of AC for what AC has achieved in the State this past one year. No matter our shortcomings or misgiving in some quarters, the State AC has achieved much as we are today a force to be reckoned in the scheme of things in the political landscape of Rivers State. The fact remains that today we are not only a key player in the affairs of Rivers State but on the Niger Delta issue. The fact remains that it was through the threat of AC to organize a protest march against the death trap the Port Harcourt International Airport was occasioned by the FG negligence that prompted the Aviation Ministry to set in motion the immediate provisions of the needed equipment to allow planes to fly in and out of the Airport at any given time.”

Princewill said that today, the people of the region can be assured of their safety while flying in and out of the Port Harcourt International Airport that only existed in name prior to AC threat. We were instrumental to the cancellation of the initial plan by the FG to constitute a Committee of people who do not know anything about the plights and suffering of our people in the Niger Delta region into proffering solutions on the Niger Delta issue and the setting-up of the Niger Delta Technical Committee instead.

Today, Governor Amaechi's constant foreign trips are now curtailed to enable him face the seriousness the administration of State matters requires – the State is better of his steady stay in the State to face the assiduous task of providing the needed leadership to the State.

Through Rivers AC activities and initiatives' over N50B worth of investments were able to be attracted to the State through the State Government Private Partnership Program (PPP). Rivers AC made the Rivers State Government to see the need of parleying with the militants, which has resulted to the peace Rivers State is currently enjoying in the State.

Rivers State AC stands as the most vibrant, cohesive, organized, pulsating and effervescent and issues-oriented party in the State. Its criticisms of some obnoxious State policies have kept the State Government on its toes thereby giving the State Government the advantage to provide democratic dividends to Rivers people. The gains of Rivers AC's partnership with the State Government need not be over-emphasized as its representatives in the State Exco have continued to beam the light for the rest of the State Exco to follow.

Rivers AC achieved all these through research, study, the zealousness, hard work and the commitment of party officials to excel and patriotic drive to develop Rivers State. In conclusion, contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Unity Government in Rivers State has not only become a reality but has become a study in political engineering, artisanship and pragmatism to be emulated by other levels of governance in the world.
