Mac Manu - NPP Chairman MEMBERS OF the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the northern regional capital, Tamale, continue to suffer brutalities at the hands of some persons believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The latest victim is the acting Northern regional secretary of the NPP, Faisal Gbangili, who was severely beaten by six thugs over the weekend.
According to the victim, a day before the incident he went to Changli, a suburb of Tamale, following a clash between NDC and NPP supporters.
After the visit, he indicated, he granted interviews to a number of radio stations in Accra on the situation and the party's position on the matter.
The disclosure of some facts to the radio stations, he observed, might not have gone down well with one Abdul Razak aka Area Commander, who allegedly threatened to kill him and raze down his house.
Thirty minutes after the threat, he continued, he received two phone calls reaffirming the threats, by which time he realised his life was in danger.
He therefore reported the matter to Latif Sahana, elder brother of Razak, who promised to contact his younger brother and get back to him.
A day after, the NPP secretary said, he was on his way to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to visit of the victims of the Changli clash when he was stopped by Razak who profusely apologised for his actions.
Later that evening, he told DAILY GUIDE, he was seated at a spot opposite the Gulpkegu Naa's palace when six thugs emerged from nowhere and started beating him up. He said but for the timely intervention of some Good Samaritans the situation would have been bloody.
He immediately reported the matter to the regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where he was given a form to seek medical attention.
The regional CID confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE.
The regional hierarchy of both the NDC and NPP have condemned the attacks and appealed to the security agencies to ruthlessly deal with anyone found culpable.

Oh NDC, why can't you spare us this agony? We lost the elections, we've handed over power to you in good faith, we've taken the loss boldly in our strides. Why can't you leave us in peace to count our losses? Please, we're not in your dark past where you used the army to brutalise your opponents!
